October 13th, 2016
Our first guest of the year is Dr. Omar Rivera – Associate Professor of Philosophy and Chair of Race & Ethnic Studies at Southwestern University (see his page here).
We have two events scheduled for Dr. Rivera’s visit on October 13th: A Meet and Greet Brown Bag and a Lecture. Make sure you pencil these events into your calendar!
Meet and Greet Brown Bag: This event is an opportunity for Philosophy Majors and Minors as well as students in Mexican American Studies to meet with Dr. Rivera informally. This will give you an opportunity to get to know his work, ask him about his experience as an academic philosopher in the United States (he is originally from Perú), and his thoughts on any issue that you might be interested in knowing more. It is scheduled on the same day as the Lecture: October 13th, during lunch time, from 12:20pm to 1:30pm. So please feel free to bring lunch/drink with you. It will take place in the Student Academic Center (STAC), Room 2.130.
Lecture: Later on that same October 13th in the afternoon, Dr. Rivera will present his latest research in a lecture entitled “Shamanic Bodies: Alcoff, Anzaldúa, Kusch, and Andean Corporealities”
Time : 4:00pm
Location : EDUC Complex Auditorium 1.102, UTRGV Edinburg Campus.
We look forward to seeing all of you there!
